There is a change on the horizon
The change is coming. Summer is coming to an end.
This is of course a change we have every year as autumn appears with is beautiful colors. What’s different now is that we have had a really great summer with many hours of sun.
The rain has been elsewhere for a change and I can´t say that I miss last year’s downpours.
I have tried to make the most of these days the last weeks, with or without the camera.
During the weekend I made a trip to Hornborgasjön to check the status there and to hopefully see some migratory birds there. I also visited my mother’s place as she wanted to hike around Lake Surte not far from where she lives. The first four pictures in the gallery are from the weekend.
I didn´t have any particular luck at Hornborgasjön and those few pictures I took weren´t really worth keeping, but the hike around Lake Surte was nice and I took a couple of pictures with my pocket camera.
On Monday I did a bike ride to the fields at Utby, one of the places I visited frequently last year. I was really pleased to see how well it had grown there. The last time I visited I thought it would was “destroyed” for years to come due to the Caterpillars that had worked on the fields during winter. I got a nice back light photo of a Whinchat.
This isn´t a technically great picture, but I really like the habitat and I really wanted to do something different. I get a little bored when I see the “perfect” pictures that many take today. I really hope they stay for a couple of more days as rain is coming and it would be nice to have a Whinchat in this habitat when it’s soaking wet.
Next stop where on Tuesday when I went to Svankällan to see if I could find some Dragonflies there. I had seen many during the hike around Lake Surte of species that I didn´t recognize and that made me go back to Svankällan.
I found two new species for me and I am not 100% sure when I say it’s a Common Darter. I feel certain that it should be a Darter, but I wouldn’t go any further that so.
The visit produced a lot of action as the Dragonflies seemed to be breeding now. I couldn´t manage to get any breeding picture, but I like the side profile I got.
It is also a back light picture and this time the highlights are blown out. I don´t think it was possible to not get blown out details as the sun were shining straight through the wings that acts as big reflectors.
One thing that this excellent summer has showed me is that I need to work on how I shall set the exposure during full sunlight.
