In here you find photos from my first visit to Tasmania. I stayed there for almost four weeks, but feel there is so much more to explore.
Photos from my vacation on Tasmania 2014
What can I say about the island of Tasmania? Well there is surely so much more to discover. I have always thought about going to Australia some day. I thought it would happen after my working days were over. Instead, I got the privilege to leave the dark north during winter last year to go to Austrlia for the first time, and hopefully not last. I travelled together with Maria to the island Tasmania where we visited her relatives. When we left Tasmania we went to mainland Australia for some days on our own.
Most nights we either spent in the city of Hobart or Devonport. We also made a trip to Strahan on the west coast of Tasmania from where we did a boat trip up on Gordon River. We did more or less activities each day. Travelled to many parts of the island to see different things like waterfalls, animals or other spectacular sights.
An active vacation
My only goal with the vacation was to get some well-deserved rest and to do a boat trip with Pennicott Wilderness Journeys. Sadly I got sick for a couple of days and missed some excursions. On the positive side me and Maria did two boat trips. One around Bruny Island and the other around Tasman Peninsula. Don’t forget to check out those photo albums as they are worth a look.
It was a pleasure to have Marias relatives as guides as they knew the island inside out. It made life easy for us. We just could tagged along. It was like everything was given to you on a silver plate. We got to see much more than I hoped for before getting there.
It was a nice first visit to Tasmania and I would love to go back some day. If I go back then I will do a lot more research myself. Make my own plan for the trip with some guidance from the expertise. I would love to stay in some of the National Parks to have the wilderness around me and I would love to go out to sea and do some proper photography. The two boat trips were awesome. I recommend them to everyone visiting Tasmania. Still I would like to get out by boat with the single goal of catching sea birds in their proper habitat. I am not sure if that is possible to arrange, but I know I would have to check it out if I go back to Tasmania in the future.
I went on a 10 day roadtrip taking mainly along the eastcoast of Sweden checking out new places for butterflies. I ended up in the north trying Brown bear photography as well.
Kalvträsk 2021
I went up to Kalvträsk during spring 2021 with the primary objective being the Black Grouse lek with Golden Eagle as a bonus. It was also a means of getting away from home on a short vacation.
Lake Kerkini 2020
Lake Kerkini in 2020 was spectacular in many ways. The light was great and to have a full moon made it even more unique.
Bulgaria 2020
Went back to the Eastern rhodope mountain of Bulgaria for vulture photography in the middle of winter. Sadly no snow and not as much vulture action as one could have hoped.
