Wild Bird Trust photographers of the week
This time it is a picture of a Black-crowned Night Heron and I took it during the boat trip at Lake Tisza in 2012. If you read my blog you know that this was one of the highlights during 2012 for me. The photo is taken from a small rocking boat and in the start I had some difficulties handling the motions as I tried to photo with the camera mounted on a monopod. I quickly realized that it wasn´t working as I couldn´t counteract the motion of the boat with the camera fixed to the monopod and it also made me clumsy which isn´t a good thing sitting in a boat. Handheld was the way to go making life easier during the rest of the boat trip.
I saw Night Herons a couple of times during the trip in Hungary. They where always searching for food as they all seemed to have young ones in the nest. Sadly I didn´t get any really nice photos of them hunting, but this is one of the better pictures I took.
We where on the way back to the landing stage in the small boat when we saw this individual sitting on a perch in the middle of the channel leading to the landing stage. It seemed relaxed and we slowly approached it without disturbing the bird. When I felt I had taken the picture I wanted we steered clear without the bird leaving its perch. It was a nice ending to a great boat trip on Lake Tisza.
It makes me glad to see that my picture was chosen for this week’s edition of Top Wild Bird photographs and I truly hope you enjoy this picture.
