What will Túrkeve bring this day?

Today was going to be spent around Túrkeve, but first we were going to try and see if the resident Kingfisher at our Guesthouse where more cooperative than last time. That meant we could sleep a little longer which was great because I was really tired from the day in the Eagle hide.

Zoltán arrived at 8 o’clock and then we had noticed that the Great White Egret had returned and soon I noticed that the Kingfisher sat in its favorite tree on the other side of the small thermal lake. We tried to see if we could get any good photos from our side, but soon had to abandon that project, instead we would try from the other side. That meant we had to go thru the Spa on that side if we got permission from the persons in charge there.

Zoltán charm got us thorough, but once we got onto the small island the Kingfisher took off. It reappeared two or three times, but we had no chance off getting any photos. Instead we made new plans and that is to bring hides onto the island. It sounds good, but I have no idea if it actually will work. Still we got some nice photos from the island of both the Great White Egret, but also of Long-tailed Tits.

After this session we went to Túrkeve to try the Garden hide there and to see what the Owl where up to in Túrkeve. If we had any luck we would also find the Short-eared Owls there.

The garden hide didn´t produce anything extraordinary even if we were able to get nice photos of many of the more common species as Greenfinch, Great Tit and Goldfinches. I really like Goldfinches and it was nice seeing the flock appeared to feed just in front of the hide.

The session in Tùrkeve ended on a high because of the Long-eared Owls. Most of them were alert and watch us intensely as we were taking photos. In the end we even tried some flying shots, but that wasn´t to be as we were in the middle of Túrkeve and that made it almost impossible to catch them in flight. Still it was great to see them fly around among the trees as this is something that I haven´t seen at home.

The plan for tomorrow is to visit the Eagle hide for the second time. Zoltán was there during our session in the garden hide and put out some more fresh meat. He told us he saw 4 different Eagles, 1 Imperial and 3 White-tailed Eagles. I really hope this news is promising for tomorrows session. And please let there be a little better light than last time.
