Black Grouse confirmation
I haven´t found the Western Capercaillie since my first meeting with it. I thought this might have to do with me being there in the evening so therefore I headed out in search for it this morning.
It was a clear and cold morning, the kind that really wakes you up. I know that the 2 km hike would make me warm but I didn´t expect to encounter anything out of the ordinary.
I had walked for 1 km when I heard a call that I didn´t recognize. I stopped and listen to see if I could localize from where it came. I stood there for a short while until I saw a something moving on the other side of a meadow. It took off and flew over the birches and headed in my direction. My first thought was that this would be a Thrush but I soon realized that it was a Black Grouse. Sadly I had the camera in my backpack, but I now know for certain that I can find them here in Gothenburg. Hopefully the weather will permit me going out early one morning next week. I´ll probably need to be out as early as 6:00 to maximize the chance of finding one.
Unfortunately I didn´t find Western Capercaillie. We were 3 persons looking for it but it wasn´t to be found in the area today. I will not go there anymore this month, at least not until I´ve taken the photo of the Black Grouse.
Still I had a lovely morning with rising temperature and a constant chatter from the smaller birds. I couldn´t go back home today with no photos so I located a Woodpecker couple and started to gear up. I managed to get some shots but they really wasn´t up to standard. Instead I choose to stay put so the smaller bird hopefully would accept my presence. They did.
I got some decent photos even if the light wasn´t favorable. I had to lower the shutter speed and hope that the birds would sit still. I hope you´ll enjoy them.
