The weekend in Nossebro

Me and Maria drove to her father’s place on Friday after work to spend the weekend there. He lives in Nossebro 90 kilometer from Gothenburg and the drive takes around 1 hour and it was mostly done in heavy rainfall but once we got nearer Nossebro it started to brighten up in the sky.

We got there late because we had been out checking for bed sofas at two different places but luckily for us dinner was served when we arrived. You get spoiled when we go there and it’s a real treat to just relax from the hectic life in the city and just enjoy the tranquility.

We got to bed late and up late on Saturday morning. Saturday was my birthday and I had decided that I would like to go to Hornborgarsjön but first it was breakfast and present time. I got a bird book from my mother and the fun with this was that you had a speaker and could listen to the bird and not just reading about them. I got a wireless remote from Maria that will work for both of my cameras and this might open for a new type of photography.

The drive to Hornborgarsjön took almost an hour so we ended up there around midday and that meant less activity than in the morning. Still I got plenty of opportunity to try and get some shots of the Common Terns. As soon as I saw the Tern begin to search for food I just had one picture in mind and that is when they dive into the water. This is of course hard to get with the D800, I really miss the speed of the D700 at moments like this.

I didn´t nail the photo but I still got some nice photos like this one.

What I like in this photo is that you can see how the Tern is using the tail to steer.

I also tried one of the hides there and got some interesting photos of flying birds like this one of a Mallard Duck coming in to land.

Technically this is a really good photo. Maybe you could have asked for some better detail on the Ducks head but that is all. And of course it would have been nice to have the bird parallel to you but that could have been solved with a higher aperture.

We headed over to the other side of the lake but on that side it really calm. I did see an Osprey in the sky but it was too far out for me to get any photo.

Now we headed to Läckö castle and Spiken, a small fishing village, were we took a lunch sitting on a roof terrace looking out over Swedish biggest Lake Vänern. We ate a really good smoked Salmon with pasta there and I would love to go back there a sunny day.

After lunch we made a stop at Läckö Castle and this was the first time there for me. It would have been grand to see the yellowish castle light up at sunset but this wasn´t the day.

Once back in Nossebro we got dinner but before dinner I took this photo of a Bee sucking nectar from the flower. The light wasn´t the best and I would have liked to have better sharpness over more parts of the Bee. Still I like the photo in its simplicity.

The dinner afterwards was really good and we all enjoyed it with a Bordeaux from 2001. We ate Roast beef with a Mediterrean potato salad with Balsamico vinegar, a good way to end the birthday.

On Sunday we all went to visit some private gardens that were opened to the public. I can´t say that it got my full attention, but it was a nice and relaxing day even if I drove all the time.

A good and relaxing weekend ended on Sunday evening when I ate too much of the homemade ice cream together with a rhubarb compote before heading back to Gothenburg.
