Showing different places in Halland to Ivar

Halland were on the menu this weekend. I wanted to show Ivar, who is visiting Gothenburg during his summer vacation, what Halland could offer this time of year.

At the moment we are just waiting for the migratory birds to arrive back from their breeding grounds on their way to warmer climate. Halland gets lots of migratory birds during this time of year so Halland should surely bring us something.

I had two stops that I was thinking about and that was Getterön and the photo hides there, but also Morups Tånge. Morups Tånge might be the best place in Halland for waders so I had high hopes we could catch a couple of migratory birds there.

We arrived at Getterön shortly after 7 am and once we got into the photo hide we could hear people there. They were rattling away shots on juvenile Water Rail that was searching for food just outside the hide. It was nice seeing a young bird like this. I think it must have been hatched late this season as it should have been bigger in size. It had a sibling, but also an older juvenile Water Rail that must have been a couple of weeks older.

The hide didn´t bring anything out of the ordinary, but it was nice to see the Grey Herons and the waders.

This picture of the adult Water Rail is the one I am most satisfied with. It is a simple picture, but water and reflections always make the picture a little better if you ask me.

We didn’t stay long at Getterön as I really wanted to see what Morups Tånge could bring.

What a mistake.

Morups Tånge had low tide and there weren’t many waders around at all. We walked around a little to see if something of interest could be found. There were many Gulls and Cormorants there, but that was not what I wanted.

On the way back to the car we crossed the flood-meadow and there we found a multitude of Butterflies.

This picture of a Small Heath Butterfly is nice. It has great colors and it is also tack sharp. I need to remind myself that I must look at a proper macro lens. I sold my last two years ago and haven’t replaced it yet.

We did a second visit at Getterön on the way home to Gothenburg as I wanted to catch the moment when the Grey Herons beak pierce thorough the water. I thought that would have made for a good photo, but I am not sure at the moment. I probably need to rethink and I surely must be nearer the water’s surface to get an interesting picture.

The day in Halland was productive even if I had hoped for more.
