The Dalmatian Pelican workshop, the third morning
The third morning with the Dalmatian Pelicans was also the last and this time I was actually getting two runs with the Pelicans which was a nice. That meant I would be able to lend Frodes 28mm lens for the complete first run.
This was of course a huge benefit to have two camera setups to work with during the complete run and it is surely the setup you should aim for if you ever attend a Dalmatian Pelican workshop.
The morning was much more moody and that was because of the rains. There had been raining during the night and it didn´t stop until we actually sat in the boat heading out to the Dalmatian Pelicans.
I really like the mood the heavy clouds gave and I think the pictures from this day has something extra when you look at just the mood in the picture.
This morning I work with underexposed pictures as I wanted the clouds to pop out and be an integral part in the pictures.

In this picture you can clearly see that I have underexposed. It makes the clouds pop out a little extra, but it also makes the Dalmatian Pelicans become darker. I have therefore lifted the shadows in Photoshop to get back some of the details that are there from the start.
I like the picture and one could almost think I had three frames that I stitched together, but it is actually just one frame with three different Dalmatian Pelicans in a close formation.
Another technique that I worked more with on this last morning with the Dalmatian Pelicans was panning. I didn´t use really slow shutter speed as the huge Pelicans was flying at a decent speed and I also think that one need to have a faster shutter speed when you work with the D800.

I nailed a couple of decent panning shots and this is the one I like the most. You can in this picture clearly see how the background and water turns blurry when you work with the panning technique.
This is my last blog from my Golden Jackal and Dalmatian Pelican workshop that I led in February this year.
