Autumn is here

It feels like autumn came and left during the last seven days.

We had a glorious last weekend with nice sunny weather and colors that were alive. This weekend is dull and many trees has dropped the leaves to the ground.

The contrast is really stark if you just look back seven days. What happened during the week was a couple of cold and clear days that probably forced the trees to start their hibernation. It always comes to this at some point, but this year it came at full speed.

Last weekend I did a stop at Stora Amundön with the hope of fulfilling one of last year’s goals. To get some pictures of the Great Grey Shrike. I knew that one had been sighted at Stora Amundön so I headed there early on Saturday morning.

I saw the bird as soon as I parked the car, but when I turned corner around a small building it disappeared.

So, I switched target and started to walk around and tried to approach the Grey Herons that I knew where hunting in the bay. I had no luck with that either so I got a little grumpy and headed back towards the parked car.

When I was walking between the open fields, not far from the parked car, I realized that someone was pointing a camera in my direction and that made me looked a little closer.

There it was. The Great Grey Shrike. 40 meters away.

Had lucked turned?

Well the bird took off as soon as I headed out onto the field where it was perching in the top of a small tree. In the end I ended up chatting with the other photographer and as we stood by a big Juniper the Shrike came flying towards us.

It was clearly hunting as it hovered above our heads for a while before it took off again. It is not the picture I wanted, but it is still a picture. I hope it will stay for some time so I can go back and see if I can get closer to a perching bird and hopefully get a picture when it is hunting or eating a snack.

This morning I had to drop of Maria for a training camp in the southern part of Gothenburg. The skies were grey and dull, but I still took the camera with me.

I checked out two different places and that was Välen and Fiskebäck.

Välen didn´t produce anything even if I saw a female Pheasant, but Fiskebäck was really interesting. The wind was blowing towards land and that means you can get some nice flowing pictures. I gave it a try even if I didn’t have a tripod to stabilize the camera. The camera ended up on a rock and then I set the camera to live view and time delayed.

Not the most interesting photo, but I will probably go back there tomorrow if the weather stays the same to work with this. I then need to bring my tripod together with something else than just the tele lens.

Please look thorough the gallery to see the other pictures I took this Saturday, but also Saturday last weekend. I must say that I really like the picture of the Fieldfare, I think it is the best Fieldfare photo I have taken so far.
