Two of my vulture pictures printed in Africa Geographic
A couple of weeks ago I saw Africa Geographic searching for Vulture pictures for an upcoming article. I sent a few to them and now two are published in their July number.
I haven´t received the printed ex yet, but the digital copy looks great. It is a first for me and hopefully not a last. It also feels great that the article written by Tim Jackson is really good.
Tim Jackson has degrees in zoology from the universities of Cambridge and Pretoria. He writes articles for Africa Geographic, but also blog for them. You can find his blog posts here: Tim Jackson at Africa Geographic
The article Tim Jackson has written is about the declining population of Vultures. It is sadly a misunderstood creature whom many people despise. I understand why and sadly they got looks that only their mothers could like, but people need to understand that they so much more than just looks.
The Vultures face many types of problems and all are related to humans. Surprise!!!
Wind turbines, power lines, loss of habitat and of course deliberate poisoning. Even the feeding station where they put out food for them might harm them due to poisoning and when it happens it doesn´t just affect one bird.
My pictures that got chosen for Tim Jacksons article were these.
The first is of the mating Egyptian Vultures. It was a treat to see this, but also to witness how they were collecting nesting material by rolling wool around bones. They were always the first Vultures to appear and not as easily disturbed as their bigger cousins the Cinereous Vulture and the Griffon Vulture.
The second picture is of a flying Griffon Vulture. I like this picture very much. It is flying at eye-level and that isn´t a common shot to get. I like the position of the wings and how uniform the colors are. The light was good, but as you can see it is coming from the side not contributing that much to the picture.
This was a nice first one and I soon hope to have a printed ex in my hand so I can see how they look inside the magazine.
