Wild Bird Trust photographers of the week

This week I got 1 pictures included in Wild Bird Trusts Top 25 photographs of the week. The picture is of one of the Common Buzzards from my Eagle trip to Hungary in February.

It is a nice portrait of one of the many Common Buzzard’s we had in front of our hide during the first day in the Eagle hide that Hungarobirds have in one of the National Parks.

The picture is taken thru glass which isn´t the preferred way for me but more or less a norm in the southern parts of Europe. I like to shoot thru a proper lens hole because then you don´t lose any light but there are also a downsides with a lens hole and that is the added movement outside the hide which can disturb the wild birds. I know this movement can be restricted with a cleaver setup but that will cost a little more and you also need bigger room inside the hide.

I like this picture and I think it is a good portrait of the Common Buzzard. This picture portrait the Buzzard just after cleaning its beak, it had been feeding heavily on the meat in front of the hide when it got cased away. You can still see some meat remains around the beak/mouth and that is a small problem with many of the picture I took. They gorged themselves and on some of the pictures you can see big pieces of meat hanging from the beak of the bird. Not the nicest picture to show but still a little funny to watch so I have keep some of these pictures for myself.

I really liked the two days I had in the Eagle hide and I will certainly try to arrange a workshop there next year. The workshop will be exclusive with just a few participants and probably not just include Hungary but also Bulgaria, with Golden Jackals and maybe Vultures on the menu.
