Spending time in Slottskogen on New Years Day

I haven´t been lucky with the weather the days off work so I was pleased when I looked at the forecast for New Years day. It should bring some okay weather for the morning before turning into rain during the afternoon. That made the choice easy for me as I longed to get out and work with the camera. The last four or five times have been in poor conditions so it would be nice with a little change.

Everything seemed promising and I could see a clear sky when I looked out the window during breakfast. I packed my gear and checked that the lens was clean before heading outside. The drive to Slottskogen was quick as there weren´t any other cars, more or less, on the road this time of the day. Sadly this was the only positive I could take from the trip as I saw that the clouds had started to gather. Still this wouldn´t deter me, it wasn´t raining for a change.

The aim for the day was to hopefully find the Long-tailed Tit that I know should be here in Slottskogen. This wasn´t to be and I can´t say that I put much effort into this as the weather conditions didn´t change for the better while I was there. Instead I had a nice meeting with 5 Roedeer’s before I headed up to the little Zoo that they have here in Slottskogen. I walked up there to see if it was possible to take any photos of the bigger animals as I had to use such a slow shutter speed.

It wasn´t the most interesting trip, but it was nice to get some okay photos of both Fallow Deer and Black Hen.

The Black Hen is actually taken with a shutter as slow as 1/13s, that is how bad the light where.

The positive I can take from this little excursion is that I found a place where I hope to be able to take photos of the Eurasian Wren. I saw it twice and actually got 2 photos but they didn´t turn out to be any good. I also need to find another weather provider as the afternoon clearly was far better than the morning. I need to begin to check radar pictures and not just relay on what the Norwegians tell me thru YR.
