April a month of ups and downs
April is a month with strange weather as the famous artist Prince once sang. One day you have nice and sunny weather and the next the ground is covered with snow.
We have had a couple of nice and sunny days during the week. Temperatures well above zero even if the temperatures have not been as high as one would have liked. That was not what we woke up to this Sunday morning as April had a laugh at us.
I just thought it was a little too bright outside when I woke up because I could see that the sky was completely grey. Well as soon as I realized what it was I had to chuckle. Snow. In late April. You must be kidding me.
Well I should not have been surprised because the forecast last weekend actually said that it should snow during this weekend. Still I checked the forecast yesterday as I had plans on going to a Black Grouse lek, but I chose to stay in bed instead of waking up at 4 am as the forecast said cloudy and rain.
New trust the weather service
That was a bad decision as I really would have wanted to see a Black Grouse lek in winter landscape, but April surely tricked me this time. The next best thing I thought when I realized it had snowed was to take the short trip to the Common Hepatica and see how they had fared overnight.
So me and Maria headed out just after 7 am to have a look. The ground was covered with snow and you really had to look closely to find the plants. Still we found patches with flowers so the excursion was fruitful.
Now the time is just past midday and when I look outside I can’t see any snow so it melted rapidly as soon as the sun reached down. I just hear the dripping, which is quite nice and means less hardship for plants and animals.
The snow was a nice addition that brought some joy to a sad week as one of my old time favorites Prince passed away.
You can check out this link to a concert in Norway in which he played the song “Sometimes it snows in April.” It must admit that it feels like a fluke that his song sprang to life the same week he passed away and this is my small tribute to him naming this post after the song.
RIP Prince.
I include some more pictures from last visit here in Nossebro so you all can understand how different these weekends have been.
