It has been warm for a change
We have had some warm and lovely weather for a period now, but sadly the temperatures has dropped again. I have continued with my insect photography during this period as well as my water photography. I feel I actually have managed to get some decent photos during the last two weeks even during these warm, bright and sunny conditions.
During the period I have visited one new place, a nature reserve on Kinnekulla called “Österplana hed och vall“, as well as an old place called Svankällan just outside Gothenburg. Both places brought nice pictures. In particular Svankällan where I stumbled upon a beech releasing its sap making it an insect heaven.
I also revisited the waterfall Byklevsfallet and there I found something really interesting, I will probably write separately about that find later. One shall not always spill the beans straight away. I used a different approach to my water photography this time. This actually gave me more useable photos straight out of the camera. I will explore this technique more as it seems to be the way forward.
Insects in mind
My main target during this warm period has been butterflies and dragonflies. It has been a great period for them, especially due to the warm weather. The sum might not be that impressive, but still I managed to get five species of butterfly and four species of dragonfly in front of my lens. I saw more species, but I normally don’t count the ones I haven’t taken pictures of.
The Southern Hawker that I found in Kinnekulle must have been the largest dragonfly I have ever seen. It was more like a small airplane, but that is hard to understand in a photo like this.
I am also pleased to at last get some decent pictures of the European Hornet. They are impressive and to actually see how they attacked other insects, in particular the Capricorn Beetle, to get to the beech sap was really interesting. I hope I will be able to go Svankällan again this week to work with my insect photography. I don’t expect the conditions on site to be as good as it is now for much longer.
Please enjoy my pictures from the last week with warm and sunny weather.
