Demolition work in Anestad

During last week I got the question if I could help with a little demolition work at the Anestad cottage because my father-in-law was going to replace both the fireplace and the cooking stove.

The Anestad cottage is an old cottage from the 18.th century so both stoves where made of old bricks. I didn´t have any plans for the weekend so I told Maria that we could go there for the weekend end help her father with the project.

On Saturday morning I was just waiting for Maria to call me because she was house sitting her mother’s villa in Örgryte. As usual I had to pick her up and this time she complained about how cold it was outside. It was a little chilly but I more suspect it was the lack of sleep because she had been out on an After Work until 2 in the morning.

The trip was uneventful and Maria started to snore as soon as she fell asleep halfway there. When we arrived there it was lunch time so her father prepared an omelet with ham and parsley. It was good to get something in the stomach before the work started.

I must say that everything worked as a charm and we got both stoves done before the dark. The fireplace stove where the easier and that was probably due to it being more used. There was more or less nothing that kept the bricks together when the first one was removed. You could just pick them by hand. We had to work more with the kitchen stove as it just had function as a resting place for the oven and cooker. We had the right tools and started at the opposite ends of the stove and soon that one was also history.

Now we just have to wait and see what will replace them. On Sunday we tagged along and looked at different wood burners that could replace the fireplace stove. It will probably take some time before he decided what to buy.
