An extended weekend in Scania with Maria

Last week I took two days off from work and had a lovely extended weekend with Maria in Scania, the most southern province of Sweden.

We had two stops in Scania with two completely different goals. The first stop, for two nights, was along the southeastern part of Scania in Österlen, a place famous for the beautiful nature, apple orchards and farmland. Our goal was to visit the annual apple market in the small town of Kivik. A festivity held at the end of the apple harvest which acts as a closure to the tourist season they have from May to September.

We stayed at a small bed and breakfast at Haväng, a place just north of Kivik. We had been there once before, but not stayed there. It is an old farmhouse that actually have been moved twice over the years. It is situated at a lovely place just by the sea which meant I took the camera with me when I went out for a walk before the breakfast. The weather was lovely and gave me many photo opportunities and the sunrise the second day was something spectacular.

In this picture I wanted to capture the dolmen during sunrise. A dolmen is a type of single-chamber megalithic tomb, usually consisting of two or more upright stones supporting a large flat horizontal capstone. The sunrise was great with lovely clouds that made the light a little less harsh and it also brought life to the sky that otherwise would have been flat.

Our second stop in Scania was at a bed and breakfast at Skäralids, also for two nights. There we were going to visit Södersåsen National Park.

Söderåsens National Park is a horst with wide views, flowing watercourses and deciduous forests. A place we were going to investigate by foot. I also had the opportunity to spend some time each morning at one of Sweden’s best places to photo the Common Kingfisher.

The National Park was green in a way I didn´t think would be possible at the end of September. I suppose it is because of the high temperatures that hasn´t forced the trees to come into autumn colours yet. I really like the National Park and will hopefully go back to see if the forest has turned into its proper autumn colour.

All in all we had four nice days in Scania with a great deal of sun and high temperatures that we normally isn´t used to this time of year.
