A lazy weekend in West Gothland with soaring temperatures
Last weekend was a lazy one that I and Maria mostly spent at her father’s house in Nossebro. Maria had her plans for Sunday when she and her mother were to visit Karin’s, Marias friend, mother in Östadkulle to look at her Eco-friendly house. So for me it was just to decide what to do with Sunday, but that will be another blog post to read.
We left Gothenburg on Friday after work and this time we had to bring Hokus the cat. That meant we had a vocalist in the car during the journey that clearly vented its frustration. Still we made it and it always feels good when it is possible for the old cat, soon 19 years old, to wander around in garden.
The plans for Saturday were none existing from our side and I wasn´t really appealed by Bertil’s suggestion to go to Trollhättan and “Fallens dagar“. Don´t get me wrong as this is a great spectacle each summer that attracts people from all over Sweden. They go there to watch when they open the floodgates from Lake Värnern or maybe enjoy some of the artists there. This might have been really fun if the temperatures weren´t soaring around the 30’s as it did. I proposed that we could check the status on Bertil’s rubber boat that he bought last year.
My suggestion was approved of meaning we would get a little adventure on Nossan.
We woke up late and we could feel that this was going to be a really warm day. We took a short morning walk to Nossan and back before the breakfast and Hokus had to come along on this. We let her roam free along Nossan, but for most of the time we had to carry her. This was the biggest effort of the day until we had to go into the centre of Nossebro to buy some ice-cream. It was really hot, probably the warmest day of the year meaning we had to wait for the temperatures to drop before we tried the rubber boat.
When evening came we went and collected the rubber boat at Irma’s place where Bertil had it hanging in a barn. I was really impressed by the pump that we used to inflate the boat with as it didn´t take very much effort to fill the boat with air.
The boat was now seaworthy even if we discovered some small issue like a leaking valve. The idea was to test it with the paddles that Bertil had brought. He also bought a motor, but that will be tested another time.
Maria and Bertil had the privilege to do the test trip on Nossan. The short trip took a little longer than I had thought and it was clear when they arrived at the pick-up spot that the boat had leaked considerably. Still it was a first test and no one got wet, but it is probably far until the motor will be used with the boat.
