A visit to Piemiont is always nice. This was the third time there in just a few years. I really love it there as the food and wine is of excellent quality.
This is photos from my vacation to Piedmont in Italy May 2012. Most of the photos are from the Barolo region but you´ll also find many from the day trip to Lago Maggiore near the Swiss border.
This was the third time here and I must say that I really like this part of Italy. The people are warm and friendly and everyone is helpful even if I don´t speak a word Italian.
Piedmont is surrounded on three sides by the Alps, including Monviso, where the Po rises, and Monte Rosa. It borders with France, Switzerland and the Italian regions of Lombardy, Liguria, Aosta Valley and for a very small fragment with Emilia Romagna. The geography of Piedmont is 43.3% mountainous, along with extensive areas of hills (30.3%) and plains (26.4%). Piedmont is the second largest of Italy’s 20 regions, after Sicily.
We stayed at Fratelli Revellos agriturismo just below La Morra. Agriturismo is a great way of seeing the rural parts of Italy and I highly recommend this instead of staying at hotels.
A region with great wine and food
You will of course find many great wine producers here. This is where they produce Barolo and Barbaresco. This is of course great wines, but you can also find interesting blends and I personally really like both the Barbera and Dolcettos wines that they produce here.
The food is excellent and on the rustic side. You can find many good restaurants and one of the things you always should do if you stay at an Agriturismo is to speak to the host or hostess just to hear which restaurants they recommend. Many times you´ll find small restaurants with great food, but most often you need to book in advance.
So don´t miss Piedmont if you ever visit Italy. I think you will enjoy it there.
Read about Zakouma National Park and look at some of the photos I took during my six day stay there in March 2019. Zakouma National Park is an refuge for many species in the Salamat region of Chad. A place that might remind us how Africa once looked when animals freely could roam the continent.
Mana Pools National Park 2018
I went bush camping in Mana Pools in October 2018. It gave me a new insight into what he bush can bring you even at a famous place like Mana Pools in northern Zimbabwe.
The Zambezi River 2018
The Zambezi river is one of the finest and least spoiled rivers in the world. The basin has some of Africa's finest national parks, and many valuable species, ecosystems and wilderness areas survive thanks to the Zambezi river.
Hungary Bee-eater Bonanza 2018
This is my photo album from the Hungarian Bee-eater Bonanza workshop in June 2018. 7 days of photography gave us plenty of good opportunities to work with the animals of the Puszta.
