My mission at Lärjeån
I went back to Lärjeån during the weekend to see if I could get the desired pictures and maybe get some better photos then from the day before. I would also see if I could get complete any of the missions from yesterday like id the mystery bird.
This time I took the tripod with me so I could be sure of getting a good and stable platform for the camera. Most of the time I only take the monopod but sometimes it’s better to use the tripod. I should really use the tripod more often than I do but it is buky and heavy and I like to be agile when I am out taking photos.
I parked the car at the same spot as the day before, just along the road. It is not the best place to park it but at least it’s visible.
Once there I soon saw the 2 Grey Wagtails and I am most perplexed by the look of one of them. The first looks like it should but the other is much bigger and all puffed up. The strangest thing is that this bird is has no feathers on the head. It looks more like a small vulture than a Wagtail. I have tried to dig up some information to see if this is a natural behavior but I haven´t found anything. This means I must go back there in the next couple of weeks to see what happens.
My thoughts about the Barn Swallow photo was soon to be ended when I saw that there were 3 Swallows over the pond and that there was zero traffic to the nest. So now I suspect I must be lucky to be able to get the photo I´d like to have with the Swallow speeding out from the nesting site.
I also discovered the mystery bird and now I know it´s a Common Sandpiper. I heard it from a part along the pond and when I went there it sat up on a branch squeaking. I am not sure if this is a young one or if it´s an adult trying to lure me from the nest.
I only did a quick visit this time because I was disturbed by some fishermen there. I will try to be their earlier next time to see if I can find something new.
