Searching for a Common Kingfisher in Gothenburg
I knew that the clouds would be heavier today but I felt an urge to search for the Kingfisher again. I know that I probably will get an excellent opportunity to photo the Kingfisher in Hungary but that isn´t the same as taking the photo in my home town.
I waited a little longer this morning hoping for the clouds to disperse but that wasn´t to be. The light felt okay even if it was as good as last Sunday when I saw the Kingfisher for the first time here in Gothenburg. I felt lucky when I parked the car as I clearly could see the Kingfisher already. It wasn´t sitting on the same branch as last Sunday but still it was there. It sat in a small tree at the mouth of this little stream that runs out into Göta Älv. As I got out of the car the Kingfisher flew away. It felt like it was on the hunt so I collected my gear from the car and placed myself with a clear view of the streams mouth. It didn´t take long before the bird got back at the same tree. I was here alone and felt I hopefully could get some nice photos of the little jewel.
So I stood there pondering upon what to do when the Kingfisher took of a second time. This time it went downstream and I started to track the bird with my eyes. It was clear to me by its flight that it probably was going away as I saw it disappear around a bend in Göta Älv. Still I was here and had the opportunity to get close to its resting place if it came back. So walked out and placed myself a couple of meters from where I had seen the bird. I mounted the camera on the monopod and throw the bag hide over my head so now it was just a waiting game against the Kingfisher and the cold.
It felt good but the time passed by and after awhile a birdwatcher appeared and trampled out onto the site which of course wasn´t the best for me. The only positive is that I now know that the bag hide function flawlessly as the birdwatcher came within 5 meter before he realized I was there. When he had left I waited for another 20 minutes before I called it a day and headed to the same spot along Göta Älv as yesterday.
It was less activity than yesterday but still I could find things to photo. I tried not to take photos of the same types of birds as yesterday and that resulted in a couple of nice photos.
