In search of insects and soft water
It should be prime time for insects and I have been on the lookout for a good butterfly grounds for some time. Sadly the weather has been poor. We have had heavy overcast and just a few sunrays from time to time resulting in few insects.
It hasn’t been raining that much, but still I wanted to see what the waterfalls in Halleberg and Hunneberg. I wasn’t sure what they could bring this time of year due to less water. The aim was to continue with my exploration of soft water inside the intimate landscape.
So, I just packed a light camera bag for the weekend as we, me and Maria, was going to Nossebro to visit her father. I only brought the 24-70mm for wider shots and the small 300mm/4 if I happened to stumbled upon some insects.
The garden in Nossebro was buzzing with bumblebees when we got there. It was both Garden Bumblebees and Tree Bumblebees. I could easily spend time there trying to capture them in their search for nectar.
I tried to get a couple of different shots of them. It is hard to get something different as they just tend to fly between the different flowers sucking nectar. Still I could work with both species and really try the camera to see what it can and can’t produce under difficult circumstances as the light was poor.
This is a traditional bumblebee picture, but you have the added element of the two ants together with the small insect on the stem. I like it in all its simplicity.
Working with the water
I also made the trip to Halleberg and Hunneberg to look at the waterfalls. I was not impressed by Skäktefallet as it now was drizzling like a bad shower due to lack of water. Still Byklevsfallet was okay as one now could stand in the water giving you a better feeling of the waterfall.
Still I find it hard to get the exposure correct in camera, but at least I am getting the feeling for it. I will surely work more with this type of photography as I need to explore it more.
We also did a quick visit at the cottage in Anestad and to my surprise I found two new types of Butterflies. The Ringlet and the Green-veined White. It was a nice addition to the Bumblebees from the weekend before. We made a quick stop at Byklevsfallet on the way home just before the rain started to fall. Sadly the rain hindered me much and made this stop less fruitful.
Please enjoy the pictures from the last two weekends.
