A weekend on the other side of Sweden
Last weekend was spent in Öland, the second biggest island in Sweden and one that is famous for its birdlife.
Marias family spend many summers there when the children where young and we were actually going to live at the same place, almost at the northernmost point of Öland.
I left work earlier and picked up Maria and her sister Elin. Then we headed to Kungsbacka, south of Gothenburg, to pick up Andrej, Elins husband. Now it was time to hit the road. The only downside is the drive and it took almost 6 hours to reach the goal with 2 stops. When we got there we were greeted by Pixie, Elins and Andrejs daughter, Sara, the 3rd sister, and her daughter Idun and last but not forgotten Inga, mother and grandmother to all except me and Andrej.
I woke up early next morning and went out to see if I could find anything interesting. I surly did but unfortunately both the Roe deer pictures and the one of the Eurasian Hobby isn´t good enough to show here. As soon as Maria woke up we decided to take the car up to the Lighthouse on the northernmost point. The morning was really lovely and it was nice to be almost alone on the roads. I got many nice pictures there but there are still room a big room for improvements in most of them.
This picture is probably a typical one that many people take when they come here. I think that my interpretation is good and it is much better than all of the other picture I took there. It is the hazy background and the great colors that I like about the picture.
We headed back to the cottage to have some breakfast and decide what to do with the day. We had 3 cars there so we all did different things before we ended up on the beach for a swim.
I and Maria had been to Hornsjön, the only real lake at Öland, and afterwards we went for a quick lunch in Löttorp. After lunch we meet up with the rest of the family at the beach in Byrum. I will not lie and say that I enjoyed the swim because it was freezing cold in the water. Still it served a purpose because we have nothing more than a portable shower at the cottage.
We took a little detour on the way back and ended up on a scenic route just by the seaside on the west coast. It was really nice and I enjoyed it even if Maria fell asleep really quickly. Once we got back the dinner was prepared. Andrej and Elin had gone to a small butcher in Löttorp were the produce their own sausage. I am not sure how many types of sausages we tested but it must have then at least 5 or 6. They were all good particularly if you compare them to the ordinary types of Swedish sausages.
I soon went to bed because all the drive from Friday had made me tired and I didn´t look forward to the many hours on the road next day.
Still I got up early as did Maria and we went out to Böda beach. Böda is famous for its long beach and the camping site there. The site was much bigger than I thought and it was more like a little town. Some of the campers had LCD TV and Espresso machines and that isn´t something I would have brought if I went on a camping trip.
I took this picture there.
Of course I have worked with it to make it look more like an old photo and I have taken the picture with my pocket camera. I brought the pocket camera with me on this trip and 6 of the picture in this post is taken with that camera. Of course I don´t get the same sharpness as with my Nikon but I can still work with them and make something good out of them.
Once back breakfast was served and soon after the journey home began.
I wanted to see the east coast and we made some stops. I wanted to do this to get a feeling because we had talked about going back for a longer stay. I got some okay photos but I didn´t get to see any Eagles that I had hoped.
Still I keep tabs of what’s happening there because we are going back next weekend for a week’s vacations there.
